Herodotus in his History of Median Wars mentioned the town of Galipsous which is located in the wider area of Nikiti. During the Hellinistic and the Roman years, around the church of Agios Georgios there was a significant settlement. Today there are <\/span>remains <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of an Early Christian basilica of that era and it is one of the most significant <\/span><b>monuments <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that are located in Northern Greece.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first official written report of this settlement is found in Xenophon Monastery of <\/span><b>Agion Oros<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in an inventory of the beginning of the 14th century.
